Dining
Out for Life is a national fundraising event created
and launched by ActionAIDS in 1990. The fundraising
concept is unique and simple: Area restaurants contribute
33% of their business on one day each year to organizations
working on behalf of men, women, and children affected
by AIDS. The event has grown exponentially every year.
On the last Thursday of April, over 200 restaurants
in the Philadelphia tri-state area and 1000 nationally
hold Dining Out for Life.
Volunteer Ambassadors from ActionAIDS greet diners at each restaurant, tell them about the agency’s mission and work, and encourage them to make additional contributions. Frequently diners choose to eat out on this night because they are aware of Dining Out for Life. Diners who go to the restaurants without being aware of the event need to be given more explanation, but are usually very happy to be part of it.

The most important role of the Ambassador is to let diners know how much we appreciate their support and to provide a direct connection between the diner and the agency on the day of the event.
